Detox, Weight Loss, Stomach Pain and Fatigue
It may not surprise you that college students don’t necessarily take great care of their health. When I was in my final year of chiropractic school I had stomach pain so severe that I would have to grip my desk until my hands turned white just to remain in my seat. It was a long road finding out what was wrong and finding a solution that worked but in that journey I learned a hell of a lot about nutrition and stress. Feeling good again sparked my passion for nutrition and health and now I am considered a “seminar junkie”. Every seminar I take, I make a notation in my workbook of which of my patients could benefit from the information I am currently learning. Come Monday morning, they get a call about what I learned that pertained to what they are struggling with. Every year or two you make a doctor’s appointment for an annual physical and they tell you to come in for some blood work. Then, during your appointment, the doc goes through the printout from the lab and points out what results are out of line and tells you what you need to do or says “well, we’ll watch that one for awhile.”

Traditional bloodwork gets flagged “out of range” at a point at which a disease process has already started. Medication is often offered at this point. As a doctor of preventive medicine, I watch for trends in an individuals bloodwork. By drawing a line down the middle of an “appropriate” range and paying attention to any values away from the median by 25% or more, I am able to help my patients adjust their lifestyles in a way that prevents most disease processes.
