Healthy Lungs Need Vitamin KVitamin K can help clear up frequent bloody noses and helps move calcium from the bloodstream into teeth and bones where it belongs but did you know that Vitamin K is vital for healthy lung function? Check out this study! A new study published in ERJ (European Respiratory Journal) Open Research suggests that people who have low levels of vitamin K are more likely to have wheezing, asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). More than 4,000 Copenhagen residents underwent lung function testing using the goal standard test called the spirometry. This test measures the amount of air a person can breathe out in one second and the total volume of air they can breathe in, in one second. Blood samples were obtained on all of the participants including a marker of vitamin K. The study participants with low vitamin K levels had lowered ability to force breath in as well as lowered ability to force breath out. This study shows that people with asthma, wheezing or COPD should have their vitamin K levels checked and would benefit from increased levels of vitamin K in the body. If you have asthma it is important to check for food sensitivities, environmental sensitivities, gut function and inflammatory markers. As a functional medicine practitioner, I dig deep to find the root causes of the health struggles you are facing. Let me help you. |
