Preserve your eyesight
Most of you get yearly bloodwork from your doctor that covers glucose, but that is not enough to evaluate how close you are to being diabetic.
Knowing your blood sugar status allows you to make conscious decisions that can drastically affect your future.
By knowing your numbers you can more effectively correct lifestyle behaviors that can reverse most imbalances within 3 months.
Hemoglobin A1c is an indicator of your average blood sugar levels over the last 3 months.
Insulin is a marker that, when present in high numbers, can indicate insulin resistance which makes balancing blood sugar more difficult.
These tests are rarely done and not always covered by insurance but they are very important because the longer your blood sugar is out of balance the harder it is to correct.
The blood sugar markers I look at are:
Fasting Glucose
Fasting Insulin
Triglycerides
Uric Acid
Hemoglobin A1c
We implement ALL of these tests in our clinic but for a quick take-away for what to do if you suspect you have a blood sugar imbalance here are the following tips you can start today…
Chose to eat a protein and two low carb vegetables every 3-4 hours in a 12 hour time frame.
No snacking between meals.
Eat fruit, grains or higher carb vegetables (or even sweets) at the end of the meal after you eat your protein, healthy fats and fiber-rich foods.
