Why Do I Have High Blood Pressure And What Can I Do Naturally To Lower It?

High blood pressure, or hypertension, is so common many people consider it (like diabetes and heart disease) a right of passage. It is actually a sign that you need to investigate and not something to just throw a pill at because one pill ultimately leads to another.

The force of the blood pushing against the walls of the blood vessels, as your heart beats and blood is pushed through the circulatory system, is your blood pressure. It can be too high or too low. Any reading greater than 140/90 mm/Hg is considered high.

Causes of Low Blood Pressure:

Hypothyroid

Low blood sugar/ Hypoglycemia

Blood loss

Dehydration

Infection

Allergic Reaction

Anemia

Deficiencies in nutrients (Vitamin B, C, magnesium, potassium and co-enzyme Q10)

Deficiency in Vitamin D – Super Duper Important!!! It regulates angiotensin converting enzyme. Make sure your level is between 60 and 80 ng/ml on your next blood test.

Heavy metal toxicity (mercury, lead, arsenic, cadmium…) Tested from urine, not blood, with a chelation challenge.

Pain

Chronic inflammation

Find the Cause

Finding the cause is the first step in correcting it. In our office, we offer more extensive lab testing that can help determine imbalances that can contribute to high blood pressure. In addition to the Boston Heart Laboratory test that can look more thoroughly at cardiac function, we also utilize tests that evaluate heavy metals, oxidative stress, inflammation, autoimmune dysfunction, blood sugar, anemia, and toxicity. Stress is also a factor that is not to be overlooked. There is not a one-size-fits-all to hypertension but the following might be a good start.

Clean Up Your Act

Detoxification program- Take our detox survey to determine if a 10-day or 28-day detox would be recommended.
